There has been two recent sightings of bald eagles within the Choke Canyon area.
Choke Canyon Reservoir with 26,000 surface-acres is one of the largest fresh water lakes in South Texas. It is the site of many fishing tournaments throughout the year.
The state parks, that surround the reservoir, is noted for its wildlife including white tailed deer, javelina, wild turkey and even alligators. There are excellent camping facilities at Choke Canyon including cabins and motor home and RV hookups. Just outside the park are a variety of accommodations and restaurants. The entrances to the lake are four (South Shore Unit) and ten miles (Calliham Unit) from Three Rivers.
Choke Canyon Birding Festival
The Annual Choke Canyon Birding Festival at Three Rivers will be held on February 5, 2011 at the park. A festival geared to every level of birder from the beginner to the avid professional.
